Botox

The greatest advancement in cosmetic dermatology.

What can Botox treat?

  • Deep frown lines across your forehead
  • Furrowed eyebrows
  • Crows feet around the eyes
  • Lines in the neck
  • Vertical smokers lines that run above and below the lips
  • Vertical “marionette” lines that run from the outside corner of the mouth to the chin
  • Excessive sweating

How does it really work?

Botox block impulses from the nerve to the muscle. By injecting extremely small amounts of Botox into a specific muscle, we can safely relax the muscle so it does not contract and the frown line will disappear. The overlying skin lines will gradually soften and smoothen out.

Untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion, allowing normal facial expressions to be unaffected.

What is Botox?

Botox is a highly purified derivative of a toxin that in much, much larger doses could be hazardous.
When used for cosmetic purposes the toxin is purified and diluted and injected into the facial muscles.

Safety

Nobody has ever had an allergic reaction to Botox.

Research have shown that in humans a lethal injection would consist of 2,500-3,000 units of Botox.

For patients suffering from muscle spasms associated with cerebral palsy, dosages as high as 1,000 units are used quite routinely.

When Botox is used for cosmetic use the average dosage is up to 75 units.
That is insignificant and extremely safe.

The treatment

Botox treatment is a safe and simple procedure taking only a few minutes in the office.

Using a tiny needle a small amount of Botox is injected very precisely into several locations for the desired results.

Botox takes effect in 3-7 days, while maximum results are achieved in 10-14 days.
Gradually over 3-4 months the results will wear off, and the lines will start to reappear.

A simple treatment is all that is necessary to maintain the desired result.

Botox makes you look normal, rested and rejuvenated. It doesn`t give you a paralysed face or mask appearance.

Botox can safely be used in people who have already had a facelift.

Repeated facelifts will not make you look younger, only give you that wind tunnel effect.

History of Botox.

In the 1980`s used to treat patients suffering from muscle spasms associated with illnesses such as cerebral palsy.

In 1989 Botox was approved for treatment of correcting lazy eye (strabismus) in children.

A Canadian opthalmologist noted improvement in wrinkles in a patient treated for an eye disorder. Her husband, a dermatologist started to try out Botox on patients and found the same effect.

What are the side effects?

One may experience temporary redness or bruising which may be covered by makeup.

Rarely, if Botox migrates to the upper eyelid, one can experience a slight drooping of one eyelid which corrects itself after a short while.

Occasional temporary numbness of the forehead and transient headache may occur.

There have been no reports of allergic reactions.

Botox may not be administered during pregnancy or lactation.

It is contraindicated in neuromuscular diseases like ALS and myasthenia gravis.

What can`t Botox do?

  • Enlarge the lips
  • Smooth nasolabial folds
  • Add volume to the cheeks
  • Fill in deep wrinkles

Botox delivers maximum results with the smallest amount of recuperation possible.
You`ll still look like yourself, only a more refreshed, more energised version.
